Contractual Commitments
Where a Customer exceeds their contracted power commitment additional Charges will be applied to the Customer account for this overage.
The unit Charge per kW will be the amount shown on the current Standard Charges list, as may vary from time to time.
The reading used for calculating power overages will be based on the peak power consumed during any given calendar month. The consumption for each rack will be calculated as the peak power for that rack rounded up to the nearest tenth of a kW (0.1kW).
Where a Customer has contracted power commitments at more than one data centre then for the purpose of calculating applicable overages the commitment will be calculated per data centre, where the consumed power total for the data centre will be the consumption for each rack at that data centre combined. The reason for this is that Digital Space must provide commitments to third party energy companies to ensure that appropriate power is available on a data centre by data centre basis.
The total power overage for each data centre will be rounded up to the nearest half kW when calculating the overage Charge.
Example Calculation
Customer A
- Has 3 x 2kW racks in the Newark data centre. Rack 1 uses 1kW, Rack 2 uses 4kW, Rack 3 uses 2kW
- Contracted power commitment: 6kW for Newark data centre, with total consumption of 7kW
- 1kW of overage applies
Customer B
- Has racks in both Newark data centre and Telford data centre
- 3 x 2kW racks in the Newark data centre. Rack 1 uses 1kW, Rack 2 uses 2kW, Rack 3 uses 2kW
- 4 x 3kW racks in the Telford data centre. Each rack uses 3.7kW
- Contracted power commitment:
- 6kW for Newark data centre, with total consumption of 5kW
- 12kW for Telford data centre, with total consumption of 14.8kW
- Applicable overages
- No overages for Newark data centre
- 3kW of overages applies for Telford data centre
Raising a query
Where a Customer wishes to raise a query regarding a reading they will be required to provide their own, audited, readings and records with appropriate evidence for the period in question. For the avoidance of doubt, a lower reading in a subsequent month will not be considered sufficient in relation to readings in prior months. Where such additional evidence is not available the Digital Space reading will be considered final.
