Digital Space has reduced its carbon emissions by a staggering 80% since 2020, marking a huge milestone in our sustainability commitment.
Digital Space is a managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) that enables change through the power of Secure, Connected Cloud.
Our customers are equally committed to reducing their impact on our environment, which is another crucial reason we are heavily dedicated to reducing the carbon emissions produced by our data centre facilities. It enables Digital Space customers to meet their sustainability commitments too.
We operate several Data Centre facilities throughout the heart of the UK for our private cloud customers who want the security, manageability and value of UK-hosting by a UK provider, with no chance of data being extracted to the USA.
Why is this such an impressive milestone?
Digital Space has reduced its carbon emissions by a staggering 80% since 2020. This is a particularly impressive achievement because Data Centres consume a lot of electricity by nature in order to create reliable services for the UK industry. There are many challenges of reducing carbon emissions without impacting the quality of service that customers have to come to expect from Digital Space. Alongside the ability to reduce our emissions, we saw great potential to improve speed, resilience, security and reduce our physical footprint.
This huge 80% reduction was the result of several successful projects, but our partnership with Pure Storage has meant that we are able to consume significantly less power while still offering the same amount of storage and value to customers.
Typically, 25% of a Data Centre facility’s energy consumption is swallowed up by data storage alone and with storage being one of the primary areas of growth, resulting in escalating power consumption as a byproduct.
Lifecycle Carbon Analysis measures cradle to grave emissions has shown that Pure Storage customers achieve up to 85% reduction in energy and carbon emissions compared to competitors’ all-flash systems. Most data is still stored on traditional hard disk drives, but Pure Storage’s direct-to-flash devices can take their place while using 15% of the energy and 4% of the space. They also greatly reduce e-waste.
What’s Next for Digital Space’s Sustainability Mission?
Digital Space is keen to stay ahead of the curve in sustainably managing customers’ data and is planning further projects to improve cooling efficiency and generate on-site renewable energy.
