As a leading business in the UK, our environmental and sustainable responsibility has always been at the core of our business strategy. However, there is always more we can be doing and, as we mark National Earth Day this year, we are even more dedicated to helping our planet.
National Earth Day is an annual event, taking place on the 22 April each year to mark the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. The day is dedicated to demonstrating support for environmental protection, while highlighting that all people have a moral right to healthy living.
To us at Digital Space, National Earth Day is of the utmost importance. It is a day to reflect on our core values and for strengthening our commitment to reducing our environmental impact through the services we deliver.
In the last few years, our people have taken considerable strides to prevent, reduce and migrate our environmental impact. We recently reduced our power consumption by installing a pioneering battery energy storage system at our Newark site and we now promote healthier journeys to work to reduce environmental pollution, by offering all colleagues the opportunity to take part in the UK Government’s Cycle to Work scheme.
We have also built on the experience of the pandemic and the potential shift to more environmentally sustainable working practices. A ‘work from home’ framework is now in place for all colleagues, limiting transport emissions and encouraging better environmental opportunities from home.
However, we want to do more. That is why we are currently looking at:
- Reducing our water waste by 30 per cent by 2022,
- Reducing our energy consumption by 20 per cent by 2022,
- Going paperless by 2023, and
- Limiting transport emissions by reducing the need to travel for meetings, by instead encouraging walking, cycling and public transport use
Together, we can make a difference.
